I followed the link you sent, and systematically went through each step very carefully until the computer prompted me to reboot, which I did. So I just want to say many thanks for helping me with this frustrating situation, we got there in the end didn’t we?

I did try this originally back when I first had the problem some months ago and although that temporarily helped me by resetting the amount of zoom, each time the computer was restarted it reverted back to the being magnified again.
